(1) "banner copy" shall mean that portion of a banner consisting of the actual decoration or flag, or figure or similar character, as distinguished from some portion, if any, of a banner consisting of supports, or structure on which a banner is supported, which supports or is not designed in such a manner as to create an integral background or other said elements.

This location of such perimeter will be based exclusively on rectangles. If the banner consists of more than a single section or module, the total areas of the sections shall not exceed the maximum area provided by the code of Reading Pennsylvania. In the case of a banner designed with more than one surface containing banner copy, the banner area shall be computed as allowing only the maximum single display surface exposed from any one ground position.
(3) "Building banner" shall mean a banner integral with a building. "Integral with a structure" is defined in subsection (f).
(4) "Display structure banner" shall mean one or more banners included within or maintained upon a structure designed and intended for local viewing, which structure in addition provides some functional purpose other than maintaining of banners therein or thereon.
(5) "Freeway or controlled highway access right-of-way line" means that right-of-way line that is parallel to the traffic lanes and does not have the access ramps or other lines defining appurtenants to the road system.
(6) "Freestanding banner" shall mean a banner affixed to the ground.
(7) "Projecting banner" shall mean a banner attached to a building, where such banner is attached to a structure as a projection and not integral with the building.
